Committee of Good Friends, New Town Limbe, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, extended humanitarian hand to pupils of Government School (G.S) New Town, donating didactic materials and paying PTA levies for about 50 less privileged pupils. The donation comprised school bags, uniforms, exercise books, shoes, and cash envelopes for PTA.

Speaking to KNews, the President of the Committee of Good Friends, Njoke Paul Ashu said the association decided to focus on its host community this year.

“Our meeting is based in South East Community, Newtown. Over the years, we have been giving didactic materials to other schools, so we thought it wise to give it to our own community," he said.

He said last months ago donated benches to the Limbe City Council. Plans are underway to extend gestures to Limbe II and Limbe III. "For our next step plan, we are targeting the Limbe III Municipality. Later this month, we will have an outing to thank God for our successful 10th anniversary celebration."

"Our next target is to visit the orphanage next year and some schools around Limbe III and Limbe II," he added. He thanked members, the organizing committee, patron and matron, and revealed plans to involve stakeholders including the City Mayor for a bigger outreach in 2027. "

“Today we touched about 100 students, next year we want to give to more than 5,000 children. Being myself an orphan, I know we will go to orphanages. It’s part of our corporate social responsibility," he said.

"We know times are very hard. Education is the backbone of any society. We pray they use these materials diligently, learn well and pass in flying colours."

Head mistress, Madame Patience Akume, appreciated the group: "I am very, very grateful for bags, uniforms, books, and even paying PTA for children who could not afford. These gifts will go a long way."

One or the beneficiary, Jonas Akwe, said: "I feel so excited. They gave us books, bags, shoes and envelope for our PTA. May God bless them."
