Zone B wrestling: Bobende hosts thrilling competition, HRM Ndive Woka calls others to emulate

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, Bobende village in Limbe II Subdivision, Fako Division, South West region, Cameroon successfully concluded four consecutive Sundays of hosting the Zone B traditional wrestling competition. 

The event, sponsored by the Chief of Bobende village, HRM Ndive Woka, brought together wrestlers from Bobende, Mokunda, Wovia, and Ngeme. 

Promoting cultural heritage

HRM Ndive Woka expressed gratitude to God and his ancestors for the cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of preserving and passing it to the next generation. 

Despite challenges faced during the hosting, he was optimistic about improving the organisation for future events.

He appealed to other villages in Fako to join in promoting their cultural heritage, highlighting the role of traditional wrestling in fostering social cohesion.

Call for Unity 

The Chief of Mokunda village, HRM Edward Motande, emphasised the significance of traditional wrestling to the Bakweri people, echoing HRM Ndive Woka's call for other villages to participate. 

Zone B wrestling competition president, Paul Mbwema Kalle, praised the villages for their responsibility and announced that Livanda village will host the next competition, with the zonal final scheduled for May 18, 2025, at Ngeme village. 

Looking Ahead

The president of Zone B wrestling competition Paul Kalle expressed optimism about the rejuvenation of Bakweri traditional wrestling, expecting an increase in the number of wrestlers in the years ahead.
