A 16-year-old girl named Mvondo Elodie Ekotto has tragically passed away after consuming poisoned bread and chocolate given to her by an admirer.

The incident took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in the Manguier neighborhood, which is one of the 21 quarters in the Yaounde one district of the Mfoundi Division in the Centre region.

KNews gathered that Elodie left her family home to visit her boyfriend, Mvom Akomo, claiming that she was being mistreated by her stepmother.

While at his place, she encountered Safira Ramadan, a friend of Mvom Akomo, who had been making advances towards Elodie. Safira offered to buy her bread and chocolate after Elodie mentioned feeling hungry.

Safira Ramadan took advantage of the situation and purchased the bread and chocolate. He later admitted to poisoning the bread, believing it would cause Elodie to fall asleep so he could assault her. "I bought the bread and chocolate as well as [Arata Chop die]. I thought it would make her fall asleep."

Upon realising that Elodie was unresponsive, Ramadan contacted his uncle and two other family members, who helped him flee from Yaounde to Foumban and then Douala. However, he was eventually apprehended and brought back to Yaounde, where he reenacted how he poisoned Elodie.

Currently, Safira Ramadan and three other family members, including a woman, are under interrogation by the gendarmerie as part of the ongoing investigation.
