Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) has been hit by a last-minute administrative decision that has disrupted its political calendar.
The party's extraordinary convention, initially scheduled for November 29, 2025, has been formally prohibited by an order from the Divisional Officer Yaounde IV District, Mr. Nkondi Elvis Mbahangwen.
This event, which was to be the platform to officially announce the return and consolidation of Maurice Kamto's leadership of the party, has now been canceled and postponed indefinitely.
The order, dated Thursday, November 27, 2025, specifies that the prohibition follows a letter sent by Mr. Okala Ebode Thierry, presented as a Founding Member of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon.
The reason given by the Divisional Officer is the need to preserve public order, the prohibition being justified by the grounds of "serious threat to public order."
This recourse to public order legislation is a critical development in contemporary Cameroonian politics, illustrating the tensions between the administration and the opposition forces.
This dramatic turn of events places the MRC in a delicate position. The canceled event was much more than a simple meeting; it was intended as a strong signal of unity and a show of strength before potential elections.
The text of the decree emphasises that any violation of this provision will be punishable under Article 231 of the penal code, giving this decision immediate and serious legal weight. The enforcement of this order has been entrusted to the Commander of the Odza Gendarmerie Brigade.
Okala Ebode's involvement in this move raises fundamental questions about internal divisions and power dynamics within the opposition party.
The fact that a founding member could request the banning of a major demonstration by his own movement highlights deep rifts.
