Miami FC has been crowned the champion of the 10th edition of the Wovia Youth Football Tournament. The emerging champions won after beating Veteran FC 3:0 in a penalty shootout.
The match, which started at 3 pm, saw both sides miss several chances to score, with neither team able to break the deadlock after 90 minutes of play.
The final match, held at the Government School Field in Wovia, Limbe II Subdivision, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, brought together elites of the Wovia Clan, friends, and guests.
Speaking shortly after the tournament, the President of the Organising Committee, Ekema Gideon Ekema, appreciated the seven teams that participated in the tournament.
He said the tournament was organised by Wovia youths to gainfully occupy young people during the holidays and steer them away from drugs and other social ills.
Ekema Gideon is optimistic that the tournament will grow bigger and better next year. "We will not stop at this level. We'll continue and improve the status of the tournament next year," he added.
However, Ekema Gideon expressed concern about the poor state of the field and the lack of sponsorship for the tournament. He urged sons and daughters of Wovia, both within and outside the community, to give back to their community.
“Want to thank the Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome L. M Ngale for his support. We the youths of Wovia village pledge our unwavering support towards his visions and dreams to develop Limbe municipality” Ekema Gideon said.
He also appreciated the Chief of Wovia, HRM Dikanjo Malumbe George, Mr. Samson Monyongo Lifongo, Mbonde Alain, and others who supported the tournament.
"We want to urge the youths to work hard in their academics as they return to school. Special congratulations to all who succeeded in the GCE and other public exams," Ekema Gideon added.
On his part, the Youth president of Wovia Clan, Natty Ngosso, said the tournament, which started on June 6, 2025, drew an impressive crowd from the Wovia Clan and West Coast areas.
"This tournament shows that Wovia Clan youths are not only skilled in fishing but also gifted with football talents," Natty Ngosso noted.
The representative of the Wovia Clan Chiefs, Mr. Samson Monyongo Lifongo applauded the organising committee for such an initiative to keep the youths busy and encouraged them to take their studies seriously as they return to school.
Miami FC received FCFA 350,000 and a trophy, while Veteran FC took home FCFA 150,000 as the runner-up. Other amazing prizes were also handed out to the players.
