World Press Freedom Day: CAMASEJ Limbe/Tiko chapter joins others to commemorate World Press Freedom with fanfare

Journalists in Limbe and Tiko, under the banner of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) Limbe/Tiko chapter, joined their counterparts nationwide to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Half Mile, Limbe.


This year’s commemoration was dubbed “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media”.


The celebration was preceded by a workshop on conflict transformation on Friday, May 2, aimed at empowering members. 


The  May, 3 event featured a live show broadcast on Eden Radio, Eternity Gospel Radio, and Cam 1 Radio.  


In his intervention, CAMASEJ Limbe Caretaker Committee Chairman, Barrister. Maurice Welabi Nguemako, expressed gratitude to members for their active participation in both Labour Day and World Press Freedom Day celebrations. 


He praised the members for their professionalism and contributions to the success of the events, emphasizing the importance of mutual love, unity, and continuous learning among members.


Barrister. Nguemako encouraged members to prioritise knowledge sharing, debates on topical issues, and information exchange. 


The Divisional Delegate of Communication for Fako Division, Carine Ngoueli, commended the journalists for their work and urged them to maintain accuracy in their reporting. 


She stressed the need for verifying information before dissemination and assured journalists of government support. “My doors are always open for your support”. She added. 


The celebration included symposiums on World Press Freedom Day theme, sports updates, news analysis, and discussions on challenges and opportunities facing media professionals among others.
