West Region: Gendarmerie sizes IED components, apprehends alleged traffickers

Elements of the gendarmerie brigade in the West Region of Bafoussam have arrested suspected traffickers of materials used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at a building in the Nylon neighborhood of Bafoussam, West Regional capital.

According to the commander of the West Region Gendarmerie Legion, Colonel Abba Saïdou, the suspects possessed the materials and accessories necessary for manufacturing IEDs.

He added that they indicated a potential link to separatist fighters operating in the neighboring Northwest region.

Authorities discovered a mix of scrap metal and specialized components suitable for IED construction within the building.

The premises were also equipped with surveillance cameras and a fortified security system, according to the gendarmerie.

The site has been sealed off, and an investigation into the suspected traffickers is underway.
