More than 2000 exercise books, pens, pencils eraser, ruler, sharpener and other didactic materials have been freely handed to hundreds of school-going age children in Mokunda village, Limbe II Subdivision.

The large-scale donation was carried out on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Mokunda village hall by the Victoria People association as part of preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The gesture was led by the President of Victoria People, Hon. Charles Eyum'a Sama, Fako East Alternate Member of Parliament, who said the initiative is intended to support parents and encourage children to embrace education.

Citing Nelson Mandela who said education is the most powerful tool you can give to a child, Hon. Eyum'a Sama stated that no child should be left behind because they lack a book or a pen.

“Education builds communities. It builds nations. What you put in is what you get. These books are intended to support parents and encourage children to go to school," he said.

According to him, the donation is a demonstration of Victoria People's commitment to giving back to the community. "Victoria People believes that no child should be left behind. This is not the end, it is the beginning," he added.

The event was attended by the representative of the  Mayor of Limbe II municipality, the traditional ruler of Mokunda village, head teachers, teachers, parents and guardians, who lauded the initiative as timely and impactful.

Quoting William Butler Yeats that "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire," the MP urged the pupils to use the materials wisely, respect their teachers, and take the study seriously.

On his part, the Chief of Mokunda Village, HRM Edward Motande, appreciated Victoria People for the wonderful gesture of assisting his subjects with back-to-school materials.

He urged parents to send their children to school on September 7, 2026, and encouraged the schoolchildren to take their studies seriously.

The representative of the Mayor of Limbe II Council said the donation by Victoria People falls in line with Mayor Woka Ndive's vision of promoting education in the Limbe II Municipality. He called on parents to encourage their children at home to take their lessons seriously.

One of the beneficiaries children, Eposi Penda Cecelia expressed gratitude, saying the donation comes as a huge relief at a time when many families are struggling to prepare their children for the new school year.
