UNDP’s National president denounces arrest of campaign member in Garoua

The President for the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), Bello Bouba Maigari has denounced the arrest of his campaign team member in the North region, Garoua, Aboubakar Ousmane Mey.
According information KNews gathered, Aboubakar Ousmane Mey was arrested on Monday, October 6, 2025 in Garoua. He is currently accused of " holding an illegal “demonstration and "inciting revolt."
The National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP) reported in a statement published on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The party describes this as an act deemed regrettable and is campaigning for his immediate release.
In a statement, the National President of UNDP said, “The National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP) informs the public that Mr. Aboubakar Ousmane Mey, a well-known political actor in Cameroon and member of the campaign team of its candidate for the presidential election, was arrested on October 6, 2025 in Garoua”.
“According to initial information available, pending official confirmation, Mr. Mey is accused of "holding an illegal demonstration" and "inciting revolt." Contrary to the malicious rumors spread on social networks, the national president of the UNDP is not involved, either directly or indirectly, in this unfortunate act”,
“While regretting this incident, the national president of the UNDP calls for the release of Mr. Aboubakar Ousmane Mey and calls for calm”,
“The UNDP remains determined to continue its fight for a peaceful, inclusive democracy that respects fundamental rights and calls on the public to be extremely vigilant in the face of disinformation. Bello Bouba Maigari Candidate for the presidential election of October 12.”
