Tiko council witnesses 7.9% budget increase

The mayor of Tiko council, HRH Ikome Peter Mesoso III says the council budget has slightly increased by 7.9% as compared to last year.

He was speaking on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Tiko council chambers during the second ordinary session dedicated to the examination and adoption of the 2022 budget. The budget stands at FCFA 1,801,800,000 million balance in both revenue and expenditure indicating an increase of 7.9% as compared to 2021 budget.


According to Mayor Ikome Peter, the budget is realistic performant, gender sensitive, achievable and inclusive resulted from the last citizen consultation, precautions against Covid-19, effective realisation of 2021 among others.


The mayor fingered some reasons for the increase in budget; hoping the deadly Covid-19 pandemic will be curbed especially with the coming of the vaccine, the assurance from citizens to fully participate in the realisation of the 2022 budget, creation of 17 zonal development committees in a bit to mitigate some difficulties encountered in the realisation of the budget among others.

Recurrent expenses stands at FCFA 871,550,000, personnel expenses FCFA 260,000,000 and investment expenses FCFA 930,250,000.

Mayor Ikome Peter cited some projects carried out in 2021 which are construction of six culverts within the municipality, rehabilitation of drains in the streets of Tiko, equipping of Tiko Beach and municipal restaurant and ensure its functionality, construction of head teacher residence at Mondoni, construction of multipurpose youth centre in Tiko among others.

The Mayor thanked the population of Tiko and board members of the council for their unflinching support and collaboration in the fight against the killer wind of Covid-19.

“I am very optimistic that we can meet up with these challenges; We all have been through some turbulent moments in the past, directly or indirectly and this I must confess has affected in one way or the other the smooth running of our Council and our great party the CPDM, party reorganisation and its campaign gymnastics have come and past, during this period we might have stepped on each other's toes directly or indirectly, it is thus time dear Board Members for forgiveness and reconciliation” Mayor Ikome Peter said.

On his part, the representative of the SDO for Fako, Kawa Armstrong said they should put the bases of their plan into action because it is from what they will put into action that the population of Tiko Subdivision will appreciate them.

He however appreciated the efforts made by the mayor since his election. "It's no doubt the year has been difficult because of Covid-19 and the Anglophone crisis but you have together succeeded to manage the affairs of the Council and the municipality".


He stressed that since a number of projects have been realised and others are ongoing, he is optimistic that with the collaboration among the councillors and the administration, the mayor's development vision for the municipality will go long way into success.


Kawa Armstrong urged the mayor to strictly implement the task assigned to him by the government so that the population will appreciate and believe that the country is moving towards emergency 2035.

He assured the mayor that the administration will always support them with the necessary assistance in terms of training, guideline and facilities to make sure that their projects should be realised.

He urged the Mayor to work in synergy with council partners especially encouraging its tax payers to meet up with expectation and cautioned the population not to hail to individuals who sew seed of discord in the municipality.

Kawa Armstrong told the councillors to keep the town clean as it is the gateway into South West Region which will be welcoming guests for AFCON to be played in January and February 2022.
