Stakeholders at Presbyterian Pediatric Eye Hospital call for greater awareness

Stakeholders at Presbyterian Pediatric Eye Hospital, PPEH, Limbe have called for greater awareness

campaign of Cameroon Inclusive Child Health Project.

They made the clarion call on Wednesday November 23, 2022 during an annual stakeholders workshop to assess the project implementation. The workshop took place at the conference room of the PPEH Limbe.


During the meeting, the Health Service Secretary of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Dr. Nyaah Fidelis, cited issues related to security. He nonetheless added that the hospital is meant for the population reason the turnout of stakeholders was impressive.


"The discussion have been encouraging, stakeholders gave lovely ideas on how we can maintain and ensure the sustainability of the hospital so it can continue doing what it is doing for the children within the vicinity," Dr. Nyaah Fidelis said. Quizzed on the 2023 prospect, he said in 2023 a lot of activities that have been envisaged.


Among them are increasing sensitization of the population, increase outreach of the hospital to the hinterland where they attend to the population especially children.

On his part, Tem Demain, Program Officer of CBM Cameroon Country Officer Yaounde explained that his presence during the meeting was to accompany the project management team.


This, he added, was to aid them and partners to be able to share ideas on how the stakeholders can better engage in the implementation of the project that is funded through CBM by Lion club international; a German media house and foreign affairs of the government of Germany.

"I think the meeting started up well I'm very happy with the turnout especially from the representative of hospitals, regional delegation of public health, regional delegation of education, district medical officer of South West Region." Tem Demain said.


Mbua Matofe, Administrator of Presbyterian Pediatric Hospital Limbe who doubles as Project Manager of the Cameroon Inclusive Child health project said stakeholders are key partners of the hospital. He added that, they have been working with different media organs in the dissemination of information about eye health.

Matofe revealed that the local authorities, councils they are helping them a lot when it comes to organizing of community work and also sensitizing their communities.


He thanked the Regional Delegation of Basic Education for giving them access to primary schools to carry out free eye screen to all the pupils of primary schools.


"Within this year, we have some very key success, we did first surgery which was successful despite the fact that we started surgery in May and have some months we did not use the theater," he remarked.


He further noted that: "So far, we have able to operate at least 160 of various eye disease and this year, we succeeded to send our Doctor medical officer in charge for training. So we're going to have the first pediatric ophthalmology in the PCC who has gone through training and will be back this year".

Prospects for 2023


"This year one of our key things we have noted that we need to get to major business or other stakeholders in order to exploit their cooperate social responsibility.


"We are going to do this to ensure that we have a lot of cases of people who come to the hospital who can't foot their bills.

If we can have some of these organizations to assist these persons in footing of their bills and also to get persons of distance area to come for checkup will be grate thing for us." Matofe stated
