Senator Lionel Papinatu Fonderson has stated some heart rendering worries of the universal health coverage system to the Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie in the ongoing November sitting of the Upper House of Parliament.
He started by acknowledging and thanking the Head of State, Paul Biya, for making it possible for most hospitals to be equipped and is still equipping more properly and better.
Senator Lionel Papinatu explained that the universal health coverage scheme relies on human resources and a lot of technical aspects like infrastructure in hospitals and medical institutions.
He added that the scheme will be needing a lot of health personnel and that the government is indeed doing alot to train young Cameroonians in becoming medical professionals.
He expressed worries on how sad and pitiful it is to find some of these young Cameroonian doctors, if not most, who have spent at least or more than 7(seven) years in Higher Education Institutions to become medical doctors, looking for jobs with little or no opportunities to practice while the patient doctor ratio still remains a cause for concern.
Senator Papinatu, equally stressed about illicit and fake drugs in circulation and the possibility of instituting electronic payments in hospitals.
