The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly been urged by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to respond to Samuel Eto'o's latest appeal to overturn the ruling and have his candidacy validated for the position of CAF executive.
According to Afrique Sports, CAS has sent official communication to CAF, asking them to respond to an appeal launched by Cameroonian Football Federation( FECAFOOT) president Eto'o.
Earlier this year, African football's governing body rejected the FECAFOOT’s president candidacy to become a member of the institution's executive committee.
According to our source who preferred not to be named says the decision is a consequence of Eto'o being found guilty of breaching the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship, as per CAF statutes, when he agreed to become an ambassador for gambling company 1xBet in mid-2024.
After having his potential candidacy denied, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan star claimed that he would not take the verdict lying down, and it seems that he has now taken the matter to the highest judicial sports body on the planet.
With the latest CAF elections set to be held in Cairo Egypt in March, 2025 there is a strong likelihood that Eto'o could have the ruling overturned in time for his name to be added to the ballot sheet or for the list of candidates to be cancelled altogether.
Analysts say Dr. Patrice Motsepe will run unopposed come the next General Assembly and will almost certainly be sworn in to oversee a second term as head of CAF.
