The United People for Social Renovation (PURS) will convene its third ordinary congress at Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
This political party, of which Serge Espoir Matomba is the First Secretary, will hold its ordinary congress in order to designate the candidate who will be invested to represent the party for
October 2025 elections.
While the official list of nomination contenders remains undisclosed, Serge Espoir Matomba, PURS's First Secretary, has already publicly declared his ambitions.
Serge Espoir Matomba released a video in July 2024 outlining his vision for Cameroon, emphasizing sovereignist principles.
As the congress nears, Matomba is seen as the frontrunner for the party's nomination. He is PURS's prominent figure and represented the party in the 2018 presidential election, finishing eighth out of nine candidates, slightly ahead of lawyer Akere Muna.
During this Congress, the PURS will revise its statutes, renew its leadership, and appoint a candidate for Cameroon's next presidential election. For now, Matomba is the only candidate in the running.
Despite his perceived lead, Matomba has adopted a modest tone. He also clarified that the congress's agenda extends beyond candidate selection, encompassing a revision of the party's statutes and discussions on two or three other key issues.
