Barely one week to the start of this year’s edition of Ndame Island cultural festival scheduled to kickoff from February 27 to March 1, 2025 preparations have intensified ahead of the festival tagged “Maloko Ma Ewokendene cultural festival”
Speaking to the vision bearer of Ndame Island cultural festival, HRH Chief Osward Njombo Ekomboni I says preparations are moving on smoothly with just few aspects left to be done.
The Ndame Island cultural festival is an annual gathering of the Sons and Daughters of the entire Wovia Clan to unite through their culture.
Activities shall include; canoe race, swimming, deep sea diving, traditional wrestling, traditional parade Miss Ndame, arts and crafts exhibition among others.
It should be noted that Ndame is one the indigenes villages of the Wovia Clan which is the gateway to Limbe through the sea in Limbe II Subdivision.
According to HRH Chief Osward Njombo Ekomboni I AKA (Whale) of Ndame Island, the cultural festival is aimed to strengthen the bond between the natives of the Wovia clan and to preserve disappearing aspects of our culture such as the language, traditions, ancestral meals, fishing, traditional sports and dances.
“Come and discover the culture and tradition of the Bota People, as history holds the indigenous clan of Limbe who bravely resisted slave trade and colonization.” Chief Osward Njombo said.
“It’s good to identify what your forefathers handed to you, we have started going back to the root, so we are calling on everyone to go back to the root”, “If we go back to our root, we’ll realized the rich culture of Cameroon as we say, Cameroon is Africa Miniature” Chief Osward Njombo explained.
Chief Osward Njombo urged the population of Wovia clan, Limbe II, Limbe municipality, South West Region and Cameroon in general to come out massively to see the hind talents of the Bota man (Wovia Clan)
It should be noted that HRH Chief Osward Njombo initiated the idea of this cultural festival two years ago to revive the Ewokendene games in his chiefdom.
