After 11 months in the field of orthopedics, 38-year-old Messi Maxime a vibrant young orthopedic technician from Presbyterian Community Rehabilitation Services (PCRS) Kumba lives her dream of been serviceable to others through her job. With determination, Maxime got into this field in 2024 where she gave in her all to master the technical know-how for better performance.
PCRS is pleased today, to let the world know young women excel in this profession that help clients by participating in patient education, providing instructions on the use and care of orthopedic devices such as calipers, prosthesis, orthopedic shoes, crutches amongst others.
She freely executes her responsibility as an orthopedic technician amongst three male colleagues in fabricating and designing devices to aid persons with disability to live comfortably, repair, maintain and adjust medical aids.
These includes splints (orthoses), sandals and artificial limb (prosthesis), maintaining accurate patient records and documentations related to orthopedic treatments and device fitting.
Having her in this department has greatly motivated, many who no longer think this job is only met for men.
It should be noted that since 1993, the Presbyterian Community Rehabilitation Services (PCRS) Kumba went operational to better address the needs of the persons with disabilities. The institution has never had a female orthopedic technician.
