Parliamentary outreach: Hon. Etombi Ikome reaches out to elderly, needy, school children

BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA

The Member of Parliament for Fako East Constituency, Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys recently extended her hand of largesse to 30 elderly persons, needy and school children in the Limbe municipality.

According to Hon. Etombi Ikome, she had the burning desire in her heart to recognise 30 elderly persons in Limbe municipality from 85 years and above with the eldest being 102.

Hon. Etombi explained that the triple event was also aimed at giving assistance to the needy children, She taught it necessary to give a hand of assistance to the children. “It’s not easy to take care of one child, but when you have three at once, It makes it more complex, so we are reaching out to them, in helping them to go back to school, to have good food and eat and to keep healthy,” She added.

The 150 needy children from Limbe I, II and III subdivisions received didactic materials like ledgers, 60 leaves, 40 leaves, bags, pens, rulers among others to go to school comfortably come September 6, 2021. “You know they’re children who go to school with one or two note books to write in, you’ll see another child with one book in all subjects. So it was necessary to reach out to them”.

Quizzed on how much she coughed out to reach out to these three categories of people, Honourable Etombi explained that it’s not the amount of money that she has spent that matters, but the joy she puts on peoples’ faces. Hon. Etombi stressed on the fact that, since her first mandate in 2013 she has always been putting smiles on the faces of thousands of people. She cited some developmental largesse she has carried out like, treating women with fistula, supporting schools with benches, building of blocks at the Limbe Regional Hospital Mile I, among

others.

It should be noted that, this largesse is coming barely a week after that of Saker Baptist College where she renovated part of the college. One of the beneficiaries of the elderly persons who contributed invaluably for the growth of Victoria Community, Ma Lonja Ekema described Hon. Etombi Ikome as Late T. B Joshua of Fako Division. The 83-year-old said, she has been praying hard for God to send Fako’s own charity giver.

She appreciated the recognition and urged parliamentarians to emulate the gesture.

While Enjema Thelma, one of the needy children, also appreciated the MP and promised to use the didactic materials well and to study hard to come out with flying colors in her exams.

The colorful event witnessed the presence of First Assistant SDO for Fako, Marylne Yefo, Limbe City Mayor Andrew Motanga Monjimba and Mayor Limbe I Council Mbwaye Eposi who all answered present to support the Parliamentarian to accomplish her desire to empower her constituency.
