The president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Samuel Eto’o Fils has won his appeal against CAF over his exclusion from running for an important position in the organisation.

In January 2025, Eto'o was barred from partaking in the CAF Executive Committee elections, as his name was excluded from the list of candidates without irrefutable justification for his exclusion.

The four-time CAF Men's Footballer of the Year took CAF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), appealing his exclusion from contesting the upcoming elections, which are set to take place in Cairo next Wednesday, 12 March.

In an official ruling posted on their website, CAS said: "The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld an appeal by Mr Samuel Eto'o Fils and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) against the exclusion of Mr Eto'o as a candidate for election to the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF)”,

“Mr Eto'o and FECAFOOT appealed to CAS against CAF to annul the decisions rendered on the 24 and 25 January 2025 by CAF's Review Sub-Committee of the Governance Committee and by the CAF Executive Committee, which deemed Mr Eto'o ineligible and excluded him from the list of CAF Executive Committee candidates for election by the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting on 12 March 2025."

CAS added that Eto'o and FECAFOOT presented sufficient information to overturn the CAF Executive Committee's decision concerning his ineligibility.

Furthermore, CAS instructed CAF to include Eto'o on their candidates list for the elections. CAF has also been ordered to reimburse Eto'o with 8,000 Swiss Francs for legal fees in the matter.
