Barely 24 hours after the designation of a consensus candidate by Union of Change, the National President of National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), Bello Bouba Maigari's campaign coordination team issued a statement to tear up the Union for Change's statement designating Issa Tchiroma Bakary as the consensus candidate.
Categorically, Bello Bouba Maigari believes he is in no way concerned by the process which led to the appointment of his former colleague to the government. "Following the dissemination on September 13, 2025 of information on the alleged designation of a so-called consensus candidate for the presidential election of October 12, 2025.
“It should be noted that the Electoral Council of ELECAM is the only body authorised to draw up the list of candidates authorised to compete in the said election, and the Constitutional Council to confirm it in the event of a dispute. The press release stated.
The candidate designated by the UNDP is more committed than ever to the presidential election race and asks his supporters not to be distracted.
"The candidates admitted to participate in the presidential election alone determine whether they maintain their candidacy or withdraw in favor of one of their own”,
“They cannot therefore feel committed by isolated actions by small groups or individuals without a mandate, who claim to nominate a so-called consensus candidate”,
“The National President of the UNDP, Bello Bouba Maigari, UNDP Candidate for the presidential election of October 12, 2025, asks all UNDP activists and all its supporters to remain calm and to continue to organise and support its candidacy and its campaign," the note continues.
