One of the leaders of the Anglophone separatist movement, Mark Bareta from his exile in the United Kingdom, surprised public opinion by calling on Cameroonians to "participate in the presidential election of October 12, 2025" and to "defend their vote."
On his official account, the separatist leader urged voters to vote massively and defend their vote despite a system he considers "rigged," asserting that only popular mobilisation could "destabilize the current regime."
Known for his role within the “Republic of Ambazonia,” Mark Bareta now presents himself as a moderate voice, open to “political negotiations” with Yaoundé. “We want, just like you, a president capable of engaging in a genuine dialogue to end the war,” he declared.
While he welcomed the presence of candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary in Bamenda, Mark Bareta insisted on "denying any support" for him, stating that he had never called for the suspension of "ghost towns." According to him, maintaining the "lockdown" in the English-speaking regions remains a measure of resistance.
