The Norwegian judiciary has extended the pre-trial detention of separatist leader Lucas Ayaba Cho until Monday, June 30, 2025 adding eight weeks to his detention.

This marks the fifth consecutive extension on May 5, 2025 since his arrest in Oslo on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Ayaba Cho, leader of the Ambazonia Defence Force movement, faces accusations of inciting crimes against humanity and financing violent separatist activities.

He has publicly claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Cameroon's Anglophone regions.

According to Emmanuel Nsahlaï, a U.S.-based lawyer who has initiated international legal proceedings against Ayaba Cho, the trial could take up to two years to begin.

The Norwegian judicial authorities argue that the extended detention complies with international human rights standards due to the case's complexity and seriousness.
