A Norwegian court has extended the pre-trial detention of Lucas Ayaba Cho, also known as Lucas Cho Yabah, a Cameroonian separatist leader and naturalized German citizen, until May 5, 2025.
This marks the fourth consecutive extension since his arrest in Oslo in September 2024.
The decision, made after a hearing on March 10, maintains Cho’s custody, with authorities citing concerns over potential evidence tampering and a high flight risk, according to Emmanuel Nsahlaï, a US-based lawyer of Cameroonian origin who initiated the international legal proceedings against Cho.
The court's reasoning mirrored that of previous detention extensions, Nsahlaï said. Authorities revealed Cho was planning to relocate from Norway to England before his arrest.
Cho, identified as the leader of the Ambazonia Defence Force, a separatist movement comprising several armed groups in Cameroon's Northwest and Southwest regions, is suspected of inciting crimes against humanity and financing separatist violence.
All bail requests submitted by Cho’s two lawyers have been denied account to multiple reports.
