Adamou Issa, Tata Carine win big at Mt. Cameroon Race

Adamou Issa and Tata Carine both from the North West region of Cameroon are winners of the 28th edition of Mt. Cameroon Race of Hope in it 50th anniversary of the race held on Saturday February 25, 2023 in Buea.


The two athletes overpowered all odds and challenges to win the 42 km metre marathon in the Fako Division of the South West region of Cameroon.


In the women’s senior category, Tata Carine from the North West maintained her crown as the queen of the mountain by winning her fifth consecutive title. The 24 year-old displayed class and determination as she overcame pressure from second placed Kitan Mildred, aged 27.


They ran past areas like the Bongo Square, Baptist High School together with the distance separating the two being very unrecognizable before a final half break away from the defending champion who succeeded in making the difference. She arrived the Molyko Omnisport Stadium minutes before her challenger to a thunderous welcome from fans, spectators and officials.


Officials included Emmanuel Motome Mbome, president of Cameroon Athletics Federation, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai of the South West region and Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Minister of Sports and Physical Education who equally welcomed Njiyong Sydonie still from the North West region who finished 3rd in the women’s senior category.


Today’s race saw the participation of 600 athletes among them, a seven year-old Pantanpeh Noel from the NW region, the youngest in the race who succeeded in crossing the finish line of the marathon to the appreciation of observing sports personalities present.

Winner male category FCFA 10, first runner-up FCFA 7 million and second runner-up FCFA 5 million with troupy and medal same with female category


It should be noted that an explosive is reported to have intercepted the race leaving several injured. At press time the official number of those injured is yet to be made public.
