Residents of the Mbouale neighborhood in Njombe, Moungo division of the Littoral region, are in shock following the tragic death of a 20-year-old secondary school student, whose only name KNews got as Mirabel, on the morning of March 3, 2025.

According to reports, Mirabel, her younger sister, and father had eaten reheated food prepared by their mother on Sunday.

After consuming the food, all three left for their routine weekly activities, with Mirabel heading to her school, Lycee Technique de Njombe. However, while at school, Mirabel suffered a malaise, collapsed, and was rushed to Saint Jean de Malte hospital, where she was pronounced dead minutes later.

Her 8-year-old brother and father, who had also eaten the same food, were transferred to the emergency unit after experiencing stomach problems.

The mother of the household remains inconsolable, and the entire neighborhood is in mourning. While it is unclear whether the food was poisoned, allegations suggest that a suspected neighbor, who may have poisoned the food, has been arrested for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
