The most anticipated Ndame island cultural festival has come and gone but making headline news across the National territory. The festival started on Thursday February 27, 2025 and ended on Saturday March 1, 2025 at Ewokendene square, Ndame
The festival was tagged “Panyise E mwaye mo Ndame ”(Shine the light of Ndame Island) with activities such as canoe race, swimming, traditional wrestling, traditional parade Miss Ndame, arts and crafts exhibition among others.
Speaking during the event, the vision bearer of Ndame Island cultural festival His Majesty Osward Njombo Ekomboni said “we need to be resettled, we can’t come here and have our settlement place”,
“So, we need a residential place in the main land that will be easy for us to deal with the administration”,
“It will be easier for us to organise our Chiefdom and commune with our subjects like others are doing else where”
Ndame Island Cultural festival is an annual gathering of the Ndame Island Sons and Daughters to unite the Ndame Island through their culture.
Ndame which is one the indigenes villages of the Wovia Clan which is the gateway to Limbe through the Atlantic Ocean in Limbe II Subdivision.
According to HRH Chief Osward Njombo Ekomboni I AKA (Whale) of Ndame Island, the cultural festival is aimed at strengthen the bond between the natives of the Wovia clan and to preserve disappearing aspects of their culture such as the language, traditions, ancestral meals, fishing, traditional sports and dances.
“Come discover the culture and tradition of the people of Ndame and history as the indigenous Clan of Limbe which resisted slave trade and colonization.” Chief Osward Njombo said.
It should be noted that HRH Chief Osward Njombo initiated the idea of this cultural festival two years ago to revive the Ewokendene games in his chiefdom.
In his intervention, the Divisional Officer, D.O, for Limbe II Subdivision, Meke Serge Albert, stressed on the fact Ndame Island village is one of the most important 12 villages that make Limbe II Subdivision which was recognised as one of the villages of the Wovia Clan through the Presidential decree of 2007 that divide Limbe into three sub division.
“As the D.O for Limbe II who revamped this village, I’m highly honoured. I’m satisfied by your active work….congratulations”,
“I through your Chief noticed the resistant that you people are exercising in order to keep it up despite the difficulties of accessing to the village, resettlement and livelihood among others.” Meke Serge stated.
He promised to channel the worries to hierarchy, while applauding the Chief for a job well done for the successful second edition of the festival and urged him to continue in the same spirit.
“I want to say you have done it well and continue doing it more than this” Meke Serge said.
