MTN Cameroon gets new CEO, Wanda Matandela

The South African telecom group MTN Cameroon now has a new Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Wanda Matandela was recently installed into his duties with task to improve service quality an ongoing demand from government authorities and customers. 


He takes over from outgoing MTN Cameroon CEO, Mitwa Ng'ambi, who has been transferred to 

MTN Côte d'Ivoire in the same capacity.


Before now, on January 27, 2025, the Matandela and Mitwa have held a series of high-profile meetings with key government officials and heads of regulatory bodies. 


 In the course of the meetings, both are said to have been reinforcing MTN’s commitment to boost Cameroon’s digital and telecommunications sector. 


His main challenge will be managing the company’s upcoming investments, particularly the expansion and strengthening of its network. 


Enter profile of new MTN CEO Cameroon 


Wanda joined MTN in 2018 as Chief Enterprise Business Officer and drove the turnaround of this business.


With over 20 years of experience, including more than 13 years in telecoms, he has held strategic roles across the FMCG and financial services sectors. 


Wanda serves on the boards of Supersonic (Pty) Ltd and MTN Rwanda PLC. His strong commercial and stakeholder management experience will be invaluable as he builds on the high impact and energy created under Mitwa’s leadership, bringing new capabilities and insights to drive growth in Cameroon.


It should be noted that MTN Cameroon has contributed CFA1,062 billion ($1.7 billion) to state revenues and invested more than CFA540 billion ($870 million) in modernizing and strengthening its network infrastructure.
