MTN Cameroon brings digital access to underprivileged communities

MTN Cameroon employees are mobilising to offer communities in the country's ten regions 12 digital learning centers as part of the ’21 DAYS OF Y'ELLO CARE 2025‘
21 Days of Y'ello Care is a volunteering and solidarity programme launched by the MTN Group in 2007 to encourage employees of its 22 subsidiaries to get involved in social actions to benefit disadvantaged communities.
The programme takes place every year from 1 to 21 June, and is entirely funded by MTN employees and their partners (individuals, public or private) who are sympathetic to the social cause.
The 2025 edition is part of MTN's 25th anniversary celebrations in Cameroon. In this regard, employees are committed to offer communities in the country's ten regions 12 fully-equipped digital centres with free connection and powered by solar energy.
Each region of Cameroon will be provided with a Digital Centre equipped with over twenty computers, a multifunction colour printer, a video projection kit, solar energy production kit, one year free connection and a complete set of furniture (tables, chairs) among others.
Through this initiative, MTN employees hope to offer local comminities the opportunity to familiarise themselves with digital technology, an essential tool for the development of projects and communities.
These centres will also serve as a major point of contact between MTN and the beneficiary communities, in that they will host the many digital learning solutions offered by MTN, training opportunities leading to certification and incubation or development programmes for specific projects.
Enter selection process
The selection process for beneficiary communities is as follows: A call for projects opened to communities in all regions (closed on 11 May).
Selection of the top 100 most relevant projects (to be published on 22 May, an in-depth study of the 100 applications, with field visits to select the top 30, that is 03 major projects per region.
On 27 May, a public vote will be held in conjunction with a panel of experts set up for the occasion, to select the 10 most relevant projects, that is 01 per region; and on the recommendation of the panel, 02 special centres will be built in localities depending on the level of interest and real need May 29, Work will start on June 1, 2025.
It should be noted that the work will be carried out by MTN employees, their partners, communities and even private individuals who are sympathetic to the project.
“Our aim is to promote economic growth and job creation by offering communities the opportunity to improve their activities through the efficient use of digital tools,” says Danielle Mbome Efoula, Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation.
