The Minister of Social Affairs (MINAS), Pauline Irène Nguene has strongly condemned the murder of six-year-old Mathis in the Ngoa-Ekele neighborhood of Yaoundé III Subdivision and offered financial assistanceto the family.

The Minister made this remarks on Thursday, May 15, 2025 during the commemoration of the International Day of the Family.

“We have set up a technical team of social workers who will go to the field to support and assist the family on a psychosocial level.” Nguene told reporters.

The victim's family, overwhelmed by grief, recounted the circumstances of the murder to the press. According to their account, the incident stemmed from a dispute between two neighbors at a local bar.

The alleged assailant reportedly went home to retrieve a knife and then proceeded to the home of Mathis's parents.

"He told the children: I came to kill you. And before the eldest could react, he had already slashed his brother’s [Mathis] arm," a distraught relative of the child told reporters.

His daughter, Lydol, a prominent Cameroonian artist with international recognition, has expressed her profound sorrow. "I am looking for the right words to ease the pain of my family, but unfortunately, no words are strong enough to soften such pain," she stated.

In a video message, Lydol announced the postponement of her upcoming concerts, including a performance scheduled in Paris on June 7 and a career milestone concert set for May 23 at the Yaoundé Conference Center.

The case has ignited a strong public outcry, with many individuals calling for the death penalty for the person responsible for the death of young Mathis.
