MEVCUDA hands farming tools to farmers in Fako

The President of Meveo Cultural and Development Assembly Ndiko Fonderson Henry recently at the Limbe I DO’s office handed farming equipments donated by the Chamber of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishery and forestry (CAPEF) to farming groups.

The equipments which comprises of Cutlasses, spreading cans, rain boot, hoes, wheelbarrow among others were handed to farmers who are practically in need.

According to HRH Ndiko Fonderson, MEVCUDA the 117 farmers were properly scrutinized among the farming groups in Fako Division especially those who exhibited during the MEVCUDA 2021 Agric show.

He said the initiative is aimed to give a boost to the said farmers and farming groups to double their production so as to cover a large scope of food crop consumption within Fako Division.

The MEVCUDA platform has as main objective to promote Peace and Sustainable Development, by assembling the grassroots and helping Civil Society Organizations, Government Institutions, Para-State corporations, as well as Entrepreneurs to display their opportunities, and reach out to potential beneficiaries, within the framework of their programs, projects and Corporate Social Responsibilities. The MEVCUDA platform also promotes Tourism and offers opportunities for the grassroots to exchange their skills amongst themselves and to communicate their challenges to Civil Society Organizations, Government Agencies, Para-State Corporations as well as Entrepreneurs. These are achieved through Capacity Building Workshops, Cultural displays, Exhibition Fairs, Sporting Activities such as the this event which we are attending today.

It should be noted, MEVCUDA is an annual event organized by the Meveo Chiefdom with (8) successful editions since the year 2014.

On her part, the representative of the National President of Chamber of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and forestry, CAPEF Madam Obai Rosaline Regional Secretary for Chamber of Agriculture Buea revealed that the Chamber of Agriculture has created a new school to train farmers on excellence in production.

She emphasised that the school will help to boost agriculture, fishery, livestock among others. While encouraging them to work more harder to benefit more and that they should use their given talent to produce more and equally what has been given to them be use well.

Just like the past 7 editions, the 8th edition of the Meveo Cultural and Development Assembly (MEVCUDA) provides a platform that assembles and helps governemnt agencies and state corporations to display their opportunities and to reach out to potential beneficiaries within the framework of their programmes, projects and corporate social responsibilities. Since 2017, MEVCUDA has benefitted from the support program instituted by the ministry of agriculture and rural development (MINADER) whereby farmers in fako division and by extension the South West region have been gifted with farm equipment to boost production.

It should be noted that, since 2016, the South West Region and Fako division in particular has suffered unrest due to the ongoing Anglophone Crisis which has taken a great toll in the agricultural sector in this part of the country. Farmers find it very difficult to access their farms thereby reducing the increase in production.
