Meet Some Bimbia Clan Female Heavyweights In Politics

Bimbia Clan has over the years presented herself as a fertile ground for women to triumph and register their names in the world of politics in Cameroon. 


From the late 1960s to the present day, women in the city have been breaking ground in politics, achieving huge success and imprinting their names in the sands of time. 


For one thing, the Parliamentary seat of the town has rested with women, tough women playing their way through with diligence and excellence in answering the needs of their population and navigating the corridors of power with great wisdom and finesse. 


Gwendoline Etonde Burnley


A strong woman, in the person of Gwendoline Etonde Burnley, Limbe's pioneering female member of Parliament, was able to walk her way through a highly male-dominated political space, with great vigor and passion to serve the Limbe community at various levels. 


Hon. Gwendoline Etonde Burnley was a member of the West Cameroon House of Assembly aged 1967 and 1973. She then became Limbe's first Member of the Cameroon National Assembly from 1973 to 1988. 


She was an organsied, outspoken and diligent woman who loved things to be done in an orderly manner. She is one of the greatest women Victoria-Limbe ever saw. 


Victoria Tomedi Ndando


Another strong woman in Victoria-Limbe politics is Hon. Victoria Tomedi Ndando. Walking through the political space of the CPDM and SDF, she emerged a very powerful and outspoken politician. 


In the days of the Cameroon National Union (CNU) party, Ndando was Secretary for the North of England Subsection. In 1977 when she returned to Cameroon, she was elected Vice President of the Fako Subsection of WCPDM. 


She later became an MP under the CPDM ticket but took a turn to join the SDF and represented the party in Parliament between 1997 to 2002.


Hon. Rachel Celestine Epoupa Lyonga


Hon. Rachel Celestine Epoupa Lyonga also known as "Mami Bu'yam Sell'am was WCPDM Section President of Fako 1. In 2007, she went to Parliament to represent the Fako East Constituency as a CPDM MP and was re-elected in 2013 for a second mandate.


She used her time in the limelight to touch the lives of people in her community, especially women and children. Among other things, she founded the Association of Widows and Single Mothers in Limbe, which she used as a platform to reach out to those in need. 


Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys took over the Parliamentary Seat of the Fako East Constituency, following the demise of Hon. Rachel Lyonga in 2013. The business-oriented politician who is now occupying the seat for second mandate.
