Maurice Kamto announces resumption of his mandate as national president of MRC

Prof. Maurice Kamto will soon resume the national presidency of his political party, the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC). He left the presidency a few weeks ago to join the ranks of the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM).

Maurice Kamto recalls that the MRC National Council gave him the latitude to choose how he would present his candidacy for the election on October 26, 2024. 

Today, Maurice Kamto notes, the mandate given to him by the MRC National Council has expired. "By parallelism of forms, the National Council of the MRC noted this end of my mission during its meeting of September 6, 2025, by a resolution in which it requests my return to the party and the resumption of my mandate as National President of the MRC," wrote Prof. Maurice Kamto wrote on his official Facebook platform on Friday, September 12.

Indeed, for the purposes of submitting his candidacy for the presidential election of October 12, Maurice Kamto had committed to the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy. 

Unfortunately, his candidacy was rejected by the Constitutional Council on the grounds of "multiple nominations" by MANIDEM in reference to the candidacy submitted by Dieudonné Yebga.

Maurice Kamto denounced "the administrative barbarity and unprecedented judicial arbitrariness" which led to the rejection of his candidacy. 

Maurice Kamto gives reasons for his resignation from MANIDEM 

The opposition leader recounted his reasons for leaving the party and announced his imminent return to lead the MRC. 

“He wrote on his official Facebook platform, “For the reasons I had to recall in other circumstances, I had to submit my candidacy for the presidential election of 2025 under the banner of MANIDEM”,

“This candidacy has suffered the unprecedented administrative barbarity and judicial arbitrariness that we know”,

“The mandate that the MRC National Council gave me at its meeting of October 26, 2024, to choose the method of presenting my candidacy in the presidential election scheduled for October 12, expired with the shameful decision of the Constitutional Council of August 5, 2025, and with it, the reason why I had resigned from the national presidency of the MRC”,

“By parallelism of forms, the National Council of the MRC noted the end of my mission during its meeting of September 6, 2025, by a resolution in which it requests my return to the party and the resumption of my mandate as National President of the MRC.  In order to comply with this request, I had to first resign from MANIDEM”,

“This is what I did today, September 12, by a letter of resignation notified to MANIDEM, with immediate effect. I would like to warmly salute, once again, the patriotic sense of the President of MANIDEM, Georges Anicet Ekane, and the goodwill of the executives and activists of MANIDEM towards me.”
