The President/General Manager of the South West Manyu Cocoa Farmers’ Cooperative Union cum regent chief of Kembong, Ntufam Tabe Besong Oben Richard, has been crowned with a tradition title “Okim Cosemane Kpaju I” of Ekpache Nkome Kingdom—a title that means “One Who Brings People Together.”
The tittle was conferred on him over the weekend by Chief Francis Bajor Ndifon, President General of the Ekpache Nkome Kingdom, during the 2025 edition of the Bechebeja International Festival, popularly known as the New Yam Festival.
The honour recognised his efforts and remarkable role in boosting cocoa trade between Nigeria and Cameroon, strengthening cross-border economies, and fostering community empowerment.
Speaking during the event, the SDO for Manyu, Awounfac Alienou Yves Bertrand thanked the Ekpache Nkome people for their hospitality and for honouring one of Cameroon’s economic icons.
He remarked that such cultural honours embody the visions of President Paul Biya and Bola Ahmed Tinubu in promoting grassroots cooperation and regional integration through cultural diplomacy.
This cultural engagement reciprocated a visito earlier this year by a 30-man Nigerian delegation to Cameroon during the 53rd National Day celebrations in Manyu Division.
The exchange has not only deepened diplomatic relations but also fortified people-to-people and business links between the two neighbouring nations.
The festival, known for its rich display of traditional dances, attire, and culinary delights, served as a powerful platform to celebrate cultural unity and cross-border cooperation.
The arrival of the Cameroonian delegation at the Ekpache Nkome festival ground was met with cheers from over 3,000 spectators, reflecting the strong ties that have been nurtured between the communities of Cross River State and Manyu Division.
The event went beyond cultural performance; it became a practical demonstration of diplomacy through tradition. Both delegations used the opportunity to express their commitment to peace-building, economic collaboration, and mutual respect.
The warm reception and spirit of fraternity shared by the two delegations reaffirmed a strong cross-border alliance.
