Makepe: Woman sets boyfriend on fire amid infidelity claims

A woman in her 30s is currently in police custody in Makepe, Douala, after inflicting serious injuries on her boyfriend, following a fire incident allegedly perpetrated by the said lady.

.The horrific incident occurred on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in the "Toiture Vert" neighborhood of Makepe, Douala V. Although the exact motive behind her actions is yet to be established, witnesses claim the couple met at a snack bar and began a romantic relationship.

The witness further stated that the woman could not tolerate her boyfriend's infidelity, as he had multiple girlfriends, and a verbal argument ensued when she confronted him about it.

Reports indicate that, dissatisfied with the situation, the woman left and returned with petrol, which she poured on the victim and in his apartment. The apartment was partially burned, but thanks to the local population's intervention, the flames were quenched.

However, the woman has denied intentionally setting the boy and his apartment on fire, claiming that the fire was ignited by the cigarette the victim was holding.

After sustaining minor burns, the woman attempted to flee but was arrested and severely beaten by the crowd before being handed over to the Ndogbong gendarmerie in Douala.

At the time of her arrest, she was found in possession of two kitchen knives and narcotic substances. Meanwhile, neighbors contributed FCFA 75,000 toward the victim's medical bills.
