Councillors of the Littoral regional council and the South West Regional Assembly have been drilled on how to actively involve in the fight against climate change and ways to acquire funding.
The regional councillors were drilled by the representative of the National Observatory on Climate Change, the Assistant General Manager Forghab Patrick during a two-day climate change forum organised by the National Observatory on Climate Change, NOCC, in collaboration with Friedrick Ebert Foundation from February 16-17 2023 at the Limbe Botanic Garden.
During the forum, the councillors were sensitised on issues related to the fight against climate change in the context of decentralisation with main objective to raise awareness among members of the regional council and opportunities that could be seized in the fight against climate change for their development.
The forum had other specific objectives such as to raise awareness on regional council members on causes, consequences and impact on climate change in their respective constituencies, way of funding opportunities offered within the frame work of climate change as well as climate services produced by National Observatory on climate change and importance of taking into account in regional development plan.
Speaking during the event, the Assistant General Manager of NOCC Forghab Patrick said, the two days forum was a platform to create awareness in regional councillors on what climate change is all about and equally share experienced works that NOCC has been doing so far on evaluation of economic cost of climate change, climate outlook, climate forecast among others.
“We can assist them to mount projects that will bring in climate finance to better preserve the forest and better produce information that is more precise to help them take decisions at the right time to avoid landslides, health hazards among others.” Forghab Patrick explained.
