King Black Walfare Association on Thursday 20, 2025 at the esplanade of Limbe Botanic Garden graduated it pioneer batch of 100 out of 200 of Girls Resilience & Empowerment Project (GREP) and 35 students from the institution.
The project is an initiative of Street Child UK funded by the Ross Foundation involved 200 adolescents underprivileged girls drawn in Limbe municipality.
Speaking during the event, the CEO of King Black Welfare Association, Nugang Clement Devalla, said the Association was founded in 2008 has trained over 4,000 Cameroonians from all walks of life and has created over 2,500 direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect jobs being created in the process.
Nugang Clement is optimistic that the 135 trainees will be productive in the job market. Nugang opined that the skills acquired during the training programme would logically go a long way to foster them in the job market.
He explained that the girls were trained in hairdressing, computer science, pedicure and manicure and tailoring.
“From the onset all the trainees received startup capital in the form of hair dryer, roller, sewing machines, computers, printers, scanners, pedicure and manicure equipment from 6 months to 1 year.” Nugang Clement added.
He added that 40 out of the 200 girls were enroll into formal education and reports from their schools shows they are performing well.
“Today marks a significant milestone in your lives as you stand on the threshold of a new beginning, armed with knowledge, skills, attitudes acquired during your time at our esteemed institution Nugang Clement Devalla said.
He however, thanked Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys the member of parliament for Fako East Constituency for her huge support she has been supporting the Association and the Ministry of Youth Affair and Civic Education, Ministry of Vocational training Center, Street Child UK among others.
On his part, the Country Director Street Child UK, Cameroon Dr. Alfonce Tata said they decided to partner with King Black Welfare Association in order to give practical employability skills to the 200 underprivileged girls.
He told the students that, they made the right choice to get into ICT in which they have the whole wide world in their hands and urged them to equip themselves with profitable skills to become job creators.
He urged the graduates to use the skills profitably and positively at all times. And they should uphold the tenants of peace, patriotism, peaceful coexistence and National integration.
On her part, the member of parliament for Fako East Constituency, Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys told the graduates to have confidence in themselves, make sure they impact their community positively.
“Looking at them today, I know that they are determine and they’ll not let any obstacle stand in their way but they’ll over those challenges and using them as stepping stone for success.” Hon. Etombi Ikome said.
She emphasised on integrity, hard work, honesty, respect, loyalty amongst others. She opined they need to be entrepreneurs as the government can not employ everyone.
On her part, Bridget-Anne Afor, founder of the Bridget-Anne Afor Foundation who also serves as the Vice President of the Christian Democratic Party in Sweden and CEO of Fluffy Crown Ltd said
“I’m here to support the graduates and see that they get all the last minute information they need to succeed.”
She added that they need to search for partners abroad to support the work King Black Welfare Association and Street Child are doing in Cameroon.
