Prince John Elufa Manga Williams has been appointed first class traditional Chief of Limbe with effect from July 18, 2018.
This is contained in a Prime Ministerial Order No. 004/PM/13 JAN 2022. The order which was only made public on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 has the via of the presidency dated January 7, 2022.
The appointment comes to fill a throne that has been vacant for 17 years since the death of the late Paramount ruler HRM Ferguson Billa Manga Williams on April 9, 2005.
A lot of water has flown under the bridge since the death of HRM Ferguson Manga Williams with a host of candidates postulating for the post within and without the Manga Williams family. One of such contestants Chief Kinghi Liwoto was even barred from making any public and private declarations on the chieftaincy issue by former Senior Divisional Officer, late Zang III.
Another very vocal contestant to the throne was late Jesco Manga Williams father to the now appointed monarch. The administration was definitely against late Jesco’s legitimate claims to the throne because of his political affiliation to the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party.
His demise paved the way for consultative talks to take-off. And after three rounds of consultative talks carried out by the current Senior Divisional Officer, Engamba Emmanuel Ledoux, in 2018, the kingmakers gave their backing to Prince John Elufa Manga Williams to sit on the vacant stool. Still, there were all sorts of maneuvers in Limbe and Yaounde to torpedo the process. A lot of dust was raised when the appointment of the Paramount ruler of Buea came out without that of Limbe.
HRM John Elufa Manga Williams, 56, has a B.Sc in Business Administration/Public Administration. He has just finished a Master’s course in Risk Management. The wife, Gwendolyn is Limbe city councilor where is chair of the environment and sanitation committee and Limbe III councillor and also chairperson.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the new paramount ruler thanked the Head of State and Prime Minister for bestowing on him the throne promising not to disappoint them. He also
thanked and urged support from his subjects.
