Limbe Paramount Chiefdom has distributed relief items to victims of August 5th floods that affected 10 quarters in Limbe, with Down Beach, Lower Mbonjo and Lower Motowoh identified as the most heavily affected.

The aid, which includes salt, Maggi, cooking oil, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, detergent, malaria tablets and paracetamol, was handed to the quarter heads for distribution to the most vulnerable victims on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the Paramount Chief’s palace in Mbonjo Down Beach Limbe.

The initiative was supported by Fako ship, which provided financial assistance to the Chiefdom to purchase the items.

Speaking during the distribution, a representative of the Chiefdom said although the Chiefdom itself was affected by the floods, it was their responsibility to sympathize with their people.

“We have received many letters of sympathy from associations, but we want to applaud Fakoship who, beyond words of comfort, gave us a financial package to get emergency items for those who were seriously affected," he said.

He called on other well-wishers and organizations to come to the aid of the victims, stressing that it is not their fault.

On relocation from flood-prone zones, he said the residents have nowhere to go, having lived in the area for 20 to 30 years without experiencing such floods.

Beneficiaries appreciate gesture

Beneficiaries who received the items expressed gratitude to the Chiefdom and Fako ship for remembering them in their moment of distress.

“We are very happy for this support. We lost many things in the flood and we did not expect this help. We thank the Chiefdom and Fakoship for thinking about us," one beneficiary from Down Beach said.

Another beneficiary from Lower Motowoh, Elias Eseme added: "This salt, oil, Maggi and medicine will help us a lot. May God bless all those who contributed. We are calling on other people of good will to also help us."

The quarter heads on their part promised to ensure the items reach those who are most in need in their respective quarters.
