Regional Councilor Ngombe Solomon, a Divisional representative from Limbe II Council has hailed the President of the Republic for convening the elections into the Regional Assembly.
The pioneer Regional Councilor stated that despite the meagre resources, the SW Regional Assembly against all odds met certain aspirations of the people thanks to its pioneer executive President Zacheus Bakoma Elango.
Speaking to The DAWN in an exclusive interview he averred that there is need for more sources of Finance for the Assembly to function in its full capacity. Read on...
Yes, thank you for giving me this opportunity, Mr. Solomon Agborem. I am Honourable Ngombe Tome Solomon from the Southwest Regional Assembly. So far we have been trying to put things together to see how we could benefit something from our Regional Assembly.
So, we have so far gotten some projects, such as a Borehole in Lower Baondo. We had two classrooms at GBTHS Limbe, 100 benches at GBTHS Limbe, a VIP toilet, solar street lights in Limbola and Wovia villages, respectively.
Presently we are carrying a project at GHS Batoke, which is 100 benches and a VIP toilet and some other maintenance in the school. So this is what we have done so far for our mandate since we are at the exit door.
Would you say the Regional Assembly, speaking on behalf of your colleagues of the Southwest and FAKO in particular, have been able to create the necessary impact?
I would say yes, because in the Regional Assembly we try as much as possible to make sure all the Divisions and subdivisions are being touched.
So we have impacted all the Divisions of Southwest region and all the subdivisions of FAKO in particular. All of them have benefited from the Regional Assembly.
Do you feel the current Executive delivered the goods and If you have the opportunity, would you still give them yet another mandate?
Yes, I think especially my president.
He has been so good with the way he has paddled us. He has been paddling us in a very good way. With the Southwest Regional Assembly, we have just 3 billion francs annually to manage it for the whole region, which is not easy.
We have some local councils whose budgets are 7 billion, and even more. But you can imagine that for the whole region, 3 billion francs is not easy. So I think I will give kudos to my president for haven managed the resources that well.
I say so because as far as I'm concerned, Southwest is one of the regions that realised most projects for this past mandate, compared to other regions.
As pioneers,What were some of the challenges faced?
Yes, some of the challenges we faced particularly should be lack of grants. As a Regional Councillor, they know you in your municipality, like somebody who is up there who can do something. But it has not been easy with us. For example, we have the presidential elections in front of us.
We need to act as regional councillors. But for the fact that financially it is not taken into consideration, I think it's not easy. I think it would be good that from the next mandate, if the state could see into it, to make sure the Regional Councillors get some grants to meet up with their local population. I think that would be very good.
Just before we go, Regional Councillor, we are looking at colleague councillors who voted you into office. You may want to use this opportunity to send a message to them?
Yes, I think as far as my Municipality is concerned, I really want to appreciate my councillors. We have been working hand in gloves. I thank the Mayor and our Section president.
We have been working as a team and I really do appreciate them with the confidence that they had in giving me the mandate that we are going through, to the end. And I really say I appreciate them. I want to say a big thank you to them.
The first mandate was not too easy, but with the experience that we have now, it has given us the impetus to carry on with the next mandate to do much more better.
Thank you very much.
