BY NGUNYI . N

An employee of the international committee of the Red Cross, ICRC has been killed in Bamenda, North Region of Cameroon on Sunday August 23, 2021.

This is contained in a communique issued on Tuesday August 24, 2021 by the Public Relations Department of the Red Cross.

According to the communique, the 62 year- old Canadian Diomede Nzobambona died after sustaining injuries the day before during the attack in Bamenda.

A delegate in the field of water and sanitation had been working with the ICRC since 2003. Diomede was in Bamenda to supply humanitarian aids to the communities affected by the ongoing armed conflict in the Northwest and South West Region of Cameroon.

According to information gathered, the circumstances surrounding his demise have not yet been identified. However, it should be noted that Cameroon has currently recorded a number of similar cases since the start if the Anglophone crisis with such cases related to the death of Pastor Tanjon Christopher Fon who was murdered on August 7, 2021 in the Northwest region.

Been a community leader and a humanitarian aid worker with the local non- governmental organisation community initiative for the development in the region who sent to provide humanitarian assistance to his population was swapped in his own Blood.

Many international bodies have condemned this act of violence on humanitarian aid workers mounting pressure on the Cameroon government to mitigate this rate in the country.” The murder of humanitarian employees is a danger to the other humanitarian workers in the Northwest region” says the U.S Embassy.

As the international committee of the red cross continues to mourn the life of its workers independent investigations have been opened for the perpetrators to be pruned to justice in accordance with the cameroonian law.
