In memorial: Sondi Quan, devoted educationist and servant of Bimbia Clan

Going by Mustafa Kemal quote, “A good teacher is like a candle it consumes itself to light the way for others”. This quote suite the late devoted educationist, late Sondi Quan, descendant of Bonamakaka royal family from Bonabile, Bimbia, Limbe III Subdivision.

He was a senior councillor at the Limbe City Council and also the Chairman of the Bonabile village traditional council. 

He died on Sunday, October 14, 2018 of an undisclosed illness. He was aged 55. Before becoming an active politician, the deceased served in the Cameroon Baptist Convention in different capacities. He was teacher, pioneer CBC pedagogic adviser, Vice Principal, Principal and more.

He was one of the most active and loyal members of the CPDM party in Limbe III in particular and Fako Division in general. 

Sondi Quan loved the CPDM so much so that he gave up his missionary position to remain with the party. Sondi Quan rose through the ranks, climbing from YCPDM member to a section president. 

Noticing his penchant for politics, his former colleagues of the Baptist Mission advised him to resign from his missionary functions and concentrate in politics. 

That was how he was deposed as Principal and posted to Saker Baptist College Limbe, as classroom teacher. But Sondi Quan continued to be a fervent Baptist Christian; he held several positions in the Baptist Church.

The CBC Education secretary, Nyanganji Job Indi on behalf of CBC and CBC education family in particular extended his sympathy to Sondi's family and wished him a sweet and eternal rest. He was one of the most committed councillors who nurtured lives and defended ideals.

The entire staff, councillors, and the population of Limbe III will forever remain grateful for Sondi’s enormous contributions toward building the budding council. 

The world being a stage where actors play their roles and quit, Sondi has played his part in the drama of life and has quit, making the way for others to continue.

A man of the people par excellence, Sondi Quan is survived by his wife, Mrs Quan nee Effeti Ewumbue-Monono, three daughters, grandsons.
