Customs officers in Idenau, Southwest Cameroon, made a massive seizure of 10.7 metric tons of chemical precursors on March 22, 2025.
These chemicals, hidden beneath polyethylene bags, were intended for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The seizure included: - 79 bags of potassium chlorate (25 kg each) - 21 bags of sodium persulfate (50 kg each) -3 bags of copper sulfate (25 kg each) -304 polyethylene bags (25 kg each)
This significant interception occurred amidst ongoing insecurity in Cameroon's Anglophone regions, where separatist groups frequently use IEDs to target security forces.
Commander Achille Kamdem praised the seizure, highlighting the customs service's enhanced operational capabilities.
This achievement comes as authorities intensify efforts to curb the illegal flow of hazardous materials in sensitive areas.
