Hope High School Idenau drills students on career orientation

Hope High School (HHS) Idenau in West Coast Subdivision, Fako Division, South West Region joined schools across Cameroon to drilled students on the importance of early career orientation.


This was during the commemoration of the 23rd edition of the commemoration of National Guidance and Counselling Day which was held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the HHS Idenau campus.


The event was tagged “Guidance Counselling and its contribution to promoting quality Inclusive Education in Secondary Schools”.


Speaking during the event, the Principal of HHS, Mohbambu Smith Ntuntih opined that government instituted the event to highlight the importance of career orientation and celebrate the vital role guidance counsellors play in the education sector.


He urged parents, teachers and educational stakeholders to guide children by fostering safe, secure and inclusive learning spaces that will help them manifest their talents.


Mohbambu Smith called on parents and teachers to be exemplary to children and to help them manifest their talents. He told parents and teachers to be watchful of their language, appearance and conduct when around children in order to set the right example for them to follow.


“Today, we brought in professionals in various fields like journalism, law, marketing accountancy, management among others to drill the students on earlier career selection”,


“So that students have the path through which they can duly become professionals in our beloved country Cameroon.” Mohbambu Smith.


He urged the students to implement what they have been drilled by experts in the various fields. “What they have heard today is going to help them immensely to what they intend to be tomorrow”Mohbambu Smith added.


“It is important that we make children know, at a very early age, what their orientations are. It is very important as teachers to be able to spot the talents of children as young as they are and give them guidance towards where their career paths should go,” Mohbambu Smith said.


In her intervention, the guidance and counselling teacher of HHS Ateh Glory Ndi said the significant of the event is to empower you the students select early career to prevent confusion in High School and University.


“We discovered that when most students get to Upper Sixth they’re actually doom founded and confused. That’s why today we decided to educate them on early career selection”,


“Students need to grow up with the basics of what they intend to be in future. That’s why we invited professionals in the various domains in life to educate them” Ateh Glory said.


The event was attended by the Proprietor, Mr. Asobo Nyong Emmanuel who in his never quenching test to see students succeed, made available for the students, Lawyers, Bank Managers, journalists, Mitanyen Cooperative Credit Union staff among others.
