Mapanja kingmakers designated Sammy Kale Liwonjo Chief of Mapanja village

Kingmakers and royal family of Mapanja village in Bonjongo court area, Buea Subdivision have designated Sammy Kale Liwonjo as their new traditional ruler.

This was during a consultative talk held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, chaired by the Divisional Officer for Buea, Abba Abdouraman, and other dignitaries.

The newly-designated chief, Sammy Kale Liwonjo, acknowledged the daunting challenges facing his people, particularly the crippling water crisis that has left pregnant women and residents struggling to access this basic necessity.

Chief Liwonjo called on his people to unite and work together to address this pressing issue, and to support him in his efforts to bring development to Mapanja.

The selection of Chief Liwonjo is a testament to the community's rich cultural heritage, with the process marked by wisdom and consensus-building.

Community members and observers alike described the process as peaceful and exemplary, with some expressing the hope that other villages would emulate Mapanja's model of consensus-driven leadership.

The people of Mapanja also took the opportunity to plead for improved road infrastructure, highlighting the village's fertile land and agricultural potential, which they believe could be better harnessed with improved access roads.

The community looks forward to Chief Liwonjo's leadership in navigating the challenges ahead and charting a path towards a brighter future.

Speaking shortly after the event, Sammy Kale, thanked the people of Mapanja for their support through out the whole process and the maturity spirit during the visit of the Divisional Officer for Buea and other guests.

Quizzed on his immediate priority to bring about development to Mapanja village, Sammy Kale, said immediate focus is to bring unity among all the families and all the quarters of Mapanja.

He also assured his subjects that he will manage all their resources including land issues to bring about meaningful development in the village.

The new Chief designated for Mapanja village urged his subjects to display same hospitality and maturity to guests during the coronation period.

The event was attended by prominent personalities, including the Paramount Ruler of Buea, Chief Dr. Robert Esuka Mbella Endeley, and the President of the South West Chiefs among others.
