In a significant step towards women’s economic empowerment, the partnership between GIZ, the German development agency, and YES CAMEROON has initiated a groundbreaking pilot phase of the EMPOWERHER project, dubbed "Operation 100 Women," in Bafoussam, West Region.
This three-day training session that held recently was aimed at equipping women across the country with essential skills in financial literacy and micro-credit access.
The event brought together women entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners to participate in comprehensive modules covering financial management, business opportunities, digital marketing, and mindset development.
The training emphasized practical skills such as budgeting, saving, understanding banking services, and developing business plans, with tailored sessions on starting and growing small businesses in sectors like tailoring, hairdressing, agro-food processing, catering, and pig farming.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in group activities to develop sector-specific business models, with presentations evaluated by experts. Notable sessions included insights into digital marketing strategies, the importance of a positive entrepreneurial mindset, and methods for managing and expanding small enterprises.
This initiative underscores the commitment of GIZ and YES CAMEROON to foster economic independence among women, promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth.
By empowering women with financial knowledge and micro-credit opportunities, the project aims to create a ripple effect that benefits families and communities across Cameroon.
The pilot phase in Bafoussam marks the beginning of a broader national effort to support women entrepreneurs, with plans to expand similar training programs to other regions.
As participants leave equipped with new skills and confidence, the project sets a promising foundation for increased women’s participation in Cameroon’s economic landscape.
