An explosion triggered by a leaking cooking gas bottle from a family home in Yaounde has resulted to the death of at least one person.
The devastating incident occurred on Saturday, May 17, 2025 when the children were left at home, with their 11-year-old sister tasked with preparing a meal of spaghetti, something she is used to.
However, after lighting the gas cooker, a fire ignited, leading to the explosion of the gas bottle. The quick-thinking 11-year-old managed to evacuate her other siblings from the house.
Sadly, the fire rapidly engulfed the dwelling, making it impossible to rescue one of the younger children who was reportedly asleep at the time.
The injured boy was rushed to the Gyneco obstetrics and pediatric Hospital in Yaoundé for urgent medical attention, but tragically succumbed to his severe burns.
