Garoua: Biya doles out FCFA 741 million to improve municipality

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Dev’t, Gabriel Mbaïrobé, Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) representative sent to the North region, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, handed President Paul Biya donation of FCFA 741 million to Garoua City Mayor, Goura Beladji to use to improve the livelihood of the people of Garoua.
This was during an event with CPDM militants in Garoua to thank Biya for his support towards the people of Far North region of Cameroon in areas of public lighting, sanitation, drinking water supply among others.
Gabriel Mbaïrobé said the donation illustrate the constant concern of the Head of State towards the populations of the North. He reaffirmed the people's unwavering commitment to the President of the Republic.
He is optimistic of a 100% vote" for Paul Biya in the presidential election on October 12, following the slogan chanted by the crowd: "Paul Biya for October 12."
Beyond the figures, this presidential support will result in a concrete improvement in the living conditions of the inhabitants of Garoua.
The City Mayor of Garoua, Goura Beladji, highlights the scale of the projects that will be undertaken thanks to the presidential budget of 741 million CFA francs.
He said 340 million will be invested in the installation and rehabilitation of public lighting, while 150 million will be used to build six mini drinking water supply systems with a capacity of 10 m³ each.
He added that FCFA 97 million will be used to supply tricycles, sanitation equipment and materials for neighborhood and vigilance committees.
City Mayor Goura Beladji said 6,000 vests will be distributed to motorcycle taxi drivers, increasing safety and visibility in traffic.
