Friends of Limbe Botanic Garden in collaboration with the Limbe Botanic Garden has offered a series of free guided tours to some students in Limbe municipality to get first-hand information about the activities of the Limbe Botanic garden.
The guided tours started on January 5, 2022 and will end on Sunday February 6, 2022.
The program has been sponsored by the Program for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources for South West Region (PSMNR-SW).
The idea is to pass on the message of conservation education to the public, students, children and people who have come to visit Limbe.
Speaking to the press, Mr Benjamin Jayin Jomi the desk officer for friends for Limbe Botanic Garden has this to say; “We organise these free guided tours during this AFCON period to educate the people around the Limbe municipality and student about the values and facilities of Limbe Botanic garden.
The friends of the garden organize these tours as ways to also help sustain the Limbe Botanic garden”.
So far, the following schools have benefited from the free guided tours; National Comprehensive High School, GHS Limbe, GTHS Isokolo, Our lady of Lourdes Comprehensive High School.
“The message I want pass out to students is to know about conservation education.
They should know about some species of wild life especially those endangered, the importance of the forest we have around mount Cameroon and also the protected areas of the different regions.
They should know and also make use of the facilities of botanic garden”. Benjamin Jomi said.
One of the students,Funyu Brian Folefack said the tour was enriching. He added that the vegetation is good, the plants are healthy and has fruits trees and medicinal plants.
His peer Koumo Favour said she saw many birds, and also learnt the names of many trees, their economic and health values.
She is also happy about the development taking place there recently.
