At the eve of the official launching of presidential election in Cameroon, former indomitable Lions Association (ALIFOOT) in press release dated Friday, September 26, they expressed their support for the outgoing president and candidate of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) President Paul Biya.
The statement signed by three retired players, including Bill Tchato, Joseph Antoine Bell and François Omam-Biyik, they praise Paul Biya's actions in favor of sport in Cameroon.
The press release reads, “The Association of Former Indomitable Football Lions (ALIFOOT) informs national and international public opinion of its full availability to support His Excellency Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon, in the ongoing presidential campaign”,
“Made up of former players of the national team, ALIFOOT's mission is to: Defend the interests of its members; Promote the image and legacy of the Indomitable Lions;
“Support the solidarity and retraining of former players; Transmit the values of Cameroonian football to younger generations Faithful to the fighting spirit and patriotism of the Indomitable Lions”,
“ALIFOOT expresses its gratitude to the Head of State for his constant commitment to sport and football, and stands resolutely at his side for the success of this campaign.”
A choice that is controversial. "Visually satisfied with President Paul Biya's record at the helm of Cameroon, they are ready to help him stay in power. In a statement, these three former Indomitable Lions made a plea to the Yaounde government”,
“François Omam-Biyik is ready to crucify the Cameroonian opposition like Argentina did at the 1990 World Cup.” commented our colleagues at Ici Sport.
It should be noted that the official grand launching of the presidential election campaign is scheduled today, September 27, 2025 in Buea, South region beginning 9am prompt.
In a communique issued on September 21, signed by the Head of the South West Permanent Regional delegation of CPDM, H.E Peter Mafany Musonge called on Section Presidents of all the seven Sections in Fako Division to mobilise militants to attend the grand launching of presidential election campaigns.
