A devastating fire broke out at the Dubia Centre, located opposite the Kumba main market in Kumba I municipality, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
The fire, which started around midday, ravaged numerous stalls and warehouses, causing extensive material damage.
Fortunately, the rapid response from the Army Rescue Unit and the firefighting brigade, aided by shop owners and neighbors, helped minimize the damage and prevent the flames from spreading.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in one of the market stalls, but authorities are investigating to determine the exact cause.
The fire has left many businesses in ruins, with significant material losses incurred. Local businesses, including a cooking gas distribution shop and large mattress warehouses, were destroyed.
Fortunately, there have been no reported loss of human life. In response to the tragedy, the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme Division, Ntou'ou Ndong Chamberlin has announced the establishment of a mixed commission of inquiry to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the property lost by the victims.
