Boko Haram militants launched a devastating overnight attack on a major military base in Woulgo, Far North Cameroon, killing approximately 10 soldiers.
The assault, which began on March 24 and ended on March 25, involved aerial strikes using kamikaze drones, followed by a ground attack on motorbikes.
This attack is considered one of the deadliest carried out by Boko Haram since Cameroon joined the fight against the group in 2014.
The use of kamikaze drones marks a concerning escalation in the group's tactics, with observers warning that this could signal a new phase in the insurgency.
The Woulgo base, which houses elements of the Multinational Joint Task Force and the Cameroonian Army's Airborne Troops Battalion, was targeted in a coordinated attack.
This assault occurred just 10 days after another attack on the Soueram military post, where attackers seized a large stockpile of weapons.
The attack has raised concerns about regional security and the need for Cameroon to reassess its counter-terrorism strategy.
Military insiders and analysts are calling for improved intelligence-sharing and greater investment in drone detection and air defense systems.
